University of Hawai‘i, Kapi‘olani Community College, Library & Learning Resources Unit is seeking applications for the Reference Librarian (Casual Hire). Important note: Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai'i may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the general direction of the Head Librarian, this position provides general reference assistance and instruction to library users during scheduled hours.
  • Provides basic technical support to students.
  • Provides instruction to students and faculty in the use of online and other resources available to the Library and elsewhere.
  • Prepares web instructional and informational material for students using the Internet, web applications and other information technologies.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLISc) or equivalent Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • One or more years of experience providing reference service to a diverse public.
  • One or more years of experience working in an academic library.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or training diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to use word-processing, multimedia processing, web design, and image editing software programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
