Role Overview:
The Food Safety & Compliance Manager ensures compliance with all food safety regulations and standards across Kommissary’s locations. This role drives the development and implementation of food safety programs, conducts audits and training, and fosters a culture of excellence in food safety and handling.

This role requires you to work in both fulfillment centers located in LIC, NY and Bronx, NY.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement food safety policies aligned with NYC DOH, FDA, USDA, and HACCP standards.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure hygiene and safety compliance.
  • Investigate and resolve food safety concerns, including recalls and incidents.
  • Train staff on food safety protocols and monitor adherence to best practices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of food safety records and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production, sanitation, and quality control teams to enhance safety practices.
  • Act as the regulatory liaison during inspections and audits.
  • Support additional projects and perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field.
  • Certification in HACCP, ServSafe, or a comparable food safety program.
  • 3+ years of experience in food safety management, preferably in mass production or distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance standards and food safety management systems (e.g., SQF, GFSI).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may need to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods of time. They must be able to ascend and descend staircases, ladders, and/or step stools and may be required to travel outside between buildings in varying outdoor weather conditions. The employee may also be regularly required to remain in a stationary position (sit or stand) for 85% of the time; regularly operate office machinery. The employee must be able to travel up to 50% of the time. Travel may vary in frequency and duration. The employee must demonstrate the ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 50 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
